One of the main causes of stroke is carotid disease, which results in the narrowing of the arteries due to plaque build-up, which, in turn, reduces the blood flow to the brain. The good news is that carotid disease is treatable. Some of the risk factors are age, obesity, hypertension, and lack of exercise.
