Migraine treatment is usually based on drugs which act on the migraine symptoms when an episode has already begun. Other drugs recently approved are oriented toward preventing migraines. However, besides their beneficial effects, drugs have also side effects. There are migraine therapies that don’t involve drugs, such as stress management, cognitive behavioral therapy, relaxation techniques and biofeedback, which, according to studies, have proven to reduce migraine symptoms by 50%. Drug-free treatments are less costly than medications and have long-term benefits. However, patients are skeptical about these treatments, even if they are less expensive and cut migraine symptoms by half.
