New Advances In Migraine Treatment

New Advances In Migraine Treatment

There Are Not Drugs That Prevent The Migraine Attack, And Devices That Target Brain Activity

Migraine is a debilitating condition which is treated with drugs once the episode has begun. However, there are a new group of drugs which prevent the migraine by stopping the release of proteins that cause the swelling of the blood vessels in the brain. Since these are the first drugs oriented to migraine prevention, they don’t have the same effect on all patients. Other drugs that have been effective for stopping migraines are beta-blockers, medications for seizures or depression, and botox. Nevertheless, they have also side effects, such as changes in libido and alterations in blood pressure. There are also devices that will help with migraine treatment, such as using electric impulses for brain stimulation, and magnetic fields to interrupt the brain activity causing migraine. Also, in addition to treatments using drugs and medical devices, it is important for the patient to educate himself about his condition. Migraine is a chronic disease, similar to asthma or diabetes, and it is important for the patient to understand his conditions in order to control it. More info click here.
